Dear Friends,

In an uncertain world, Corduroy is building a community for the curious.

As far as I can tell, we humans don’t ultimately know why we’re on the planet or what we’re meant to do. But we have these undeniable universal needs: for connection, growth, aesthetic appreciation, laughter.

I, for one, find it increasingly difficult to meet these needs, as technology tempts me away from true, present engagement with myself and others.

So I named the place “Corduroy”, to evoke a friendly textural feeling I remember from being a young kid in the 70’s, before I felt self-conscious…when asked a lot of questions, ate toast, and didn’t have a cell phone.

Corduroy is a cozy space with couches and floor pillows, and we hold classes, intimate music performances, a weekly creative check-in group, salon-type discussions about interesting topics, music-listening sessions, interactive games for grownups, toast-eating, and question-asking. A lot of these events are experiments… I believe in them and have given them lots of thought… but we don’t know how they’ll fly! Your attendance lets me know your interest.

We’re open for events only (no events during Asheville Guitar Pedals store hours). We currently serve tea, sparkling water, and toast. We operate on a Sliding Scale basis (you’ll usually have 3 or 4 prices to choose from), and we sell a Morning Pass (for all events occurring before noon) so you can feel free to experiment with attending a lot of events). We hope this welcomes a wide range of people. We’ll thrive best if we have people contributing at all levels, and you can also give a much-appreciated contribution to Corduroy’s sustainability whenever you like.

In addition to our own happenings, we’re open to pitches!

Check out our calendar of morning and evening events, and see address below. We’re now in Google Maps… woo!

Stay tuned - this website and the space are rapidly evolving. Join our email list for a weekly send of upcoming events.

We love what’s forming so far at this hybrid music venue / talky-space… can’t wait to see where it goes!
